Maypole Dance in Kotlina
On the 30 th day of May, Kotlina sets the stage for the Hungarian tradition.
The maypole dance is a gesture of courtship. Courting young men plant the
maypole (or first May tree) in front of young girl’s houses and decorate it with flowers,
bows, ribbons and drinks.
The event and the tradition are celebrated by way of a dinner and party at the
local cultural center.
